Out of the Bedroom 703 will take place in Woodland Creatures on Thursday, 17th October from 8.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. Entry is free and sign up for an open mic slot is from 7.30 p.m., with 10 to 15 minutes per act depending on the number of performers. Original music only for the open slots and all music lovers are welcome. A house guitar will be available for musicians.

Kirsty HeggieOur feature act this week is Kirsty Heggie. Kirsty (formerly known as Roelle Blue) has drawn inspiration from strong ’60s folk singers and Celtic roots. Her experience with both spoken word and an almost operatic singing voice is both soothing and striking. Influences of classical guitar and rock riffs meld together what has been called by judges at Celtic Connections as “great storytelling”.

Mike McKenzieOur feature act this week is Mike McKenzie. On Thursday 26th September, Mike became the first winner of the BBC Radio Scotland Singer/Songwriter Award. Mike will close out the evening with a 45-minute set including songs from his upcoming debut album “Love Like This” planned for release next year. Come early to guarantee a seat!

Gareth Herrron 2019Our feature act this week is Gareth Herron. Originally from Northern Ireland, Gareth Herron is a singer songwriter who has been playing his happysad songs around Edinburgh since April of last year. Inspired by Frightened Rabbit, The National and Sufjan Stevens; Gareth’s lyrically driven music offers an insight into the life of someone still trying to figure it all out.

There was no feature, just one song each with some doublers at the end of the evening.

Also, we’d like to mention #698 and #699 which ran during the Edinburgh Fringe. It’s Out of the Bedroom 700 on Thursday, 5th September and this is a…

Mega Mic!

This means that every act gets one song only – original music as usual. We’re planning to fit around 30 people in over the course of the evening.

This will take place in Woodland Creatures from 8.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. Entry is free and the whole bar will be open to the music, not just the back room as usual.

Cameron Phair in Russian hatOur feature act this week is Cameron Phair. Cameron is a well known, experienced and confident performer out there in musicland, and hosts open mic events, such as Live at The Loft and Whistlebinkies, regularly around Edinburgh. His songs are catchy and soulful with an indie folk/pop/rock flavour carrying influences such as Ron Sexsmith, Spiritualized, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan, Oasis and Jeff Buckley. Get yourselves down to Woodland Creatures this Thursday to witness an amazing set of songs from Cameron.

Queer Faith and TheManyOur feature act this week is Queer Faith and TheMany. This show invites you to come and sit or stand together with others, co-creating a safe and including space for us all to relax in, react or stay quiet, cry or laugh, meet again with our inner faerie(s) through experiencing a sacred and ritualistic aspect of a capella story-singing. A genderqueer blue collection of creatures in one body, will bring past stories back through songs …

Surreal, immersive and intimate story-singing show celebrating emotions related to love, multiplicity and emotional nakednesss… ♥

OOTB 696 – Thursday 11th July – SMUT.

Out of the Bedroom 696 will take place in Woodland Creatures on Thursday, 11th July from 8.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. Entry is free and sign up for an open mic slot is from 7.30 p.m., with 10 to 15 minutes per act depending on the number of performers. Original music only for the open slots and all music lovers are welcome. A house guitar will be available for musicians.

Our feature act this week is SMUT.. SMUT. is a young singer, writer, producer and musician with a grunge background taking an increasingly electronic direction with her music. Formerly performing solely with a guitar, she now also sings to hip hop and r’n’b-inspired instrumentals created by either herself or collaborative artists. Although varied with her musical creations, a vulnerable and raw approach to creative expression defines much of SMUT.’s work.

Jim BryceOur feature act this week is Jim Bryce. If you want a “typical singer-songwriter” – whatever that is – you’re not going to get it. A musical magpie, veering from rock to MOR, from folk to jazz to music-hall. Pastdoings include music for children’s radio, theatre and squeaky stuff. Tasters from his new album “A Grope of Foolish Poke Songs” may possibly feature. He may well try to lumber you with copies of it, and his previous two. Be warned!

Sir Tom Watton

Out of the Bedroom 694 will take place in Woodland Creatures on Thursday, 13th June from 8.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. Entry is free and sign up for an open mic slot is from 7.30 p.m., with 10 to 15 minutes per act depending on the number of performers. Original music only for the open slots and all music lovers are welcome. A house guitar will be available for musicians.

Our feature act this week is Sir Tom Watton. Passionate Resonant and Nostalgic. An Edinburgh based singer-songwriter, storyteller and entertainer from Scarborough, Yorkshire. Influenced by life and folklore. Tom has written in a variety of styles, including comedy, but he mostly composes folk influenced acoustic songs. Compere Graham Rhodes gave Tom his stage name (Sir Tom Watton) when Tom was playing Double Bass for Acoustic Guitar virtuoso Ollie Banks as an accolade for his organisational work with both Beached and Acoustic Gathering.

Out of the Bedroom 693 will take place in Woodland Creatures on Thursday, 30th May from 8.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. Entry is free and sign up for an open mic slot is from 7.30 p.m., with 10 to 15 minutes per act depending on the number of performers. Original music only for the open slots and all music lovers are welcome. A house guitar and keyboard are available for musicians.

SiriaOur feature act this week is Siria. When they first met in 2015, Siria and her partner Ash played music all night long, it was an instant fit. They got married a year later and haven’t stopped playing music since. Siria writes original music and sometimes plays around Edinburgh. In the next few months she hopes to get started on recording an EP. Please follow along and see where the journey leads!
