Happy New Year to all the music lovers!

Out of the Bedroom 708 will take place in Woodland Creatures on Thursday, 9th January 2020 from 8.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. This is our first show of the new decade and we hope you can join us. For one night only there will be no feature act, with the night entirely devoted to open mic acts.

Entry is free and sign up for an open mic slot is from 7.30 p.m., with 10 to 15 minutes per act depending on the number of performers. Original music only for the open slots and all music lovers are welcome. A house guitar will be available for musicians.

Out of the Bedroom 706 will take place in Woodland Creatures on Thursday, 28th November from 8.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. Entry is free and sign up for an open mic slot is from 7.30 p.m., with 10 to 15 minutes per act depending on the number of performers. Original music only for the open slots and all music lovers are welcome. A house guitar will be available for musicians.

Our feature act this week is Jonas Cimermanas. Jonas has been part of the open mic music scene in Edinburgh for the past four years. His early encounter with blues and classical rock prompted Jonas to pick up the guitar. With literary influences like Leonard Cohen, Charles Bukowski and Townes van Zandt, Jonas began writing his own material. Later influences were classical and more experimental/ambient music, where documented experiences find an ethereal setting. Jonas released his first album ‘Songs of love and longing’ in 2018 under the alias of Skip the Android. Now Jonas performs under his own name, playing sets with guitarist Paulius, and exploring ways to put the music across.

Our feature act this week is Beth Clarke. After a stormy relationship with a guitar in her 20s which led to a parting of the ways, as one of her songs explains, Beth Clarke eventually met and fell in love with a deep-voiced mandola who is now her constant companion. (She also flirts with a fiddle on the side, but don’t tell anyone!). Beth’s songs, which are rooted in her adoptive home of Edinburgh and its environs, explore the emotional landscapes of relationships – with others and with herself – with warmth, empathy, passion and humour.

Out of the Bedroom 704 will take place in Woodland Creatures on Thursday, 31st October from 8.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. Entry is free and sign up for an open mic slot is from 7.30 p.m., with 10 to 15 minutes per act depending on the number of performers. Original music only for the open slots and all music lovers are welcome. A house guitar will be available for musicians.

This will be OOTB’s 18th birthday show! Along with the music, there will be birthday cake. Songs of birthdays, anything Hallowe’en-y / gothic and of a Brexit nature will be welcome. As will all other original songs.

Our feature act this week is James Igoe. James has been playing on and off at Out of the Bedroom for 18 years with his own brand of indie pop and introspection. Influenced by Leonard Cohen, Tim Buckley, Scott Walker and Belle and Sebastian amongst many others. The mighty James Whyte will provide the top notch accompaniment.

Our feature act this week is Kirsty Heggie. Kirsty (formerly known as Roelle Blue) has drawn inspiration from strong ’60s folk singers and Celtic roots. Her experience with both spoken word and an almost operatic singing voice is both soothing and striking. Influences of classical guitar and rock riffs meld together what has been called by judges at Celtic Connections as “great storytelling”.

Our feature act this week is Mike McKenzie. On Thursday 26th September, Mike became the first winner of the BBC Radio Scotland Singer/Songwriter Award. Mike will close out the evening with a 45-minute set including songs from his upcoming debut album “Love Like This” planned for release next year. Come early to guarantee a seat!

Out of the Bedroom 701 will take place in Woodland Creatures on Thursday, 19th September from 8.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. Entry is free and sign up for an open mic slot is from 7.30 p.m., with 10 to 15 minutes per act depending on the number of performers. Original music only for the open slots and all music lovers are welcome. A house guitar will be available for musicians.

Our feature act this week is Gareth Herron. Originally from Northern Ireland, Gareth Herron is a singer songwriter who has been playing his happysad songs around Edinburgh since April of last year. Inspired by Frightened Rabbit, The National and Sufjan Stevens; Gareth’s lyrically driven music offers an insight into the life of someone still trying to figure it all out.

This means that every act gets one song only – original music as usual. We’re planning to fit around 30 people in over the course of the evening.

This will take place in Woodland Creatures from 8.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. Entry is free and the whole bar will be open to the music, not just the back room as usual.

Our feature act this week is Cameron Phair. Cameron is a well known, experienced and confident performer out there in musicland, and hosts open mic events, such as Live at The Loft and Whistlebinkies, regularly around Edinburgh. His songs are catchy and soulful with an indie folk/pop/rock flavour carrying influences such as Ron Sexsmith, Spiritualized, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan, Oasis and Jeff Buckley. Get yourselves down to Woodland Creatures this Thursday to witness an amazing set of songs from Cameron.
