Out of the Bedroom 695 will take place in Woodland Creatures on Thursday, 27th June from 8.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. Entry is free and sign up for an open mic slot is from 7.30 p.m., with 10 to 15 minutes per act depending on the number of performers. Original music only for the open slots and all music lovers are welcome. A house guitar will be available for musicians.

Jim BryceOur feature act this week is Jim Bryce. If you want a “typical singer-songwriter” – whatever that is – you’re not going to get it. A musical magpie, veering from rock to MOR, from folk to jazz to music-hall. Pastdoings include music for children’s radio, theatre and squeaky stuff. Tasters from his new album “A Grope of Foolish Poke Songs” may possibly feature. He may well try to lumber you with copies of it, and his previous two. Be warned!

Sir Tom Watton

Out of the Bedroom 694 will take place in Woodland Creatures on Thursday, 13th June from 8.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. Entry is free and sign up for an open mic slot is from 7.30 p.m., with 10 to 15 minutes per act depending on the number of performers. Original music only for the open slots and all music lovers are welcome. A house guitar will be available for musicians.

Our feature act this week is Sir Tom Watton. Passionate Resonant and Nostalgic. An Edinburgh based singer-songwriter, storyteller and entertainer from Scarborough, Yorkshire. Influenced by life and folklore. Tom has written in a variety of styles, including comedy, but he mostly composes folk influenced acoustic songs. Compere Graham Rhodes gave Tom his stage name (Sir Tom Watton) when Tom was playing Double Bass for Acoustic Guitar virtuoso Ollie Banks as an accolade for his organisational work with both Beached and Acoustic Gathering.

OOTB 693 – Thursday 30th May – Siria

Out of the Bedroom 693 will take place in Woodland Creatures on Thursday, 30th May from 8.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. Entry is free and sign up for an open mic slot is from 7.30 p.m., with 10 to 15 minutes per act depending on the number of performers. Original music only for the open slots and all music lovers are welcome. A house guitar and keyboard are available for musicians.

SiriaOur feature act this week is Siria. When they first met in 2015, Siria and her partner Ash played music all night long, it was an instant fit. They got married a year later and haven’t stopped playing music since. Siria writes original music and sometimes plays around Edinburgh. In the next few months she hopes to get started on recording an EP. Please follow along and see where the journey leads!

Rosie SmithOut of the Bedroom 692 will take place in Woodland Creatures on Thursday, 16th May from 8.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. Entry is free and sign up for an open mic slot is from 7.30 p.m., with 10 to 15 minutes per act depending on the number of performers. Original music only for the open slots and all music lovers are welcome. A house guitar and keyboard are available for musicians.

Our feature act this week is Rosie Smith. Born in Glasgow, Rosie returned to her parents’ native Edinburgh a few years ago for university, and finally got around to her longtime goal of learning to play the guitar. Rosie’s first Out of the Bedroom performance was also her open mic debut in 2018 with her first three original songs. She has since expanded her repertoire of melancholy songs, often reminiscent of the sad Scottish folksongs, which she is also a keen performer of. Rosie’s other main influences are Joan Baez, Simon and Garfunkel, and Billy Bragg. Most of her music centres around a poignant and mournful expression of love, heartbreak, and healing.

Nyk StoddartFeature act this week is Nyk Stoddart. In Nyk’s words: “I’m not much for self promotion, but I have being writing songs, which are often comedic, but also introspective, and influenced by Dylan, Neil Young and Pink Floyd, in Edinburgh since the late 1980s. Even though I’ve played at nights such as The Listening Room, Live at the Loft and even venues like the Jazz Bar and the Wee Red Bar, my heart has always been at my favourite songwriter night, Out of the Bedroom.”

Neil Matthew FoxFeature act this week is Neil Matthew Fox. Fife based singer-songwriter Neil has been a frequent performer on the Edinburgh open-mic scene since he took up guitar in 2017. Performing dark folk songs, murder ballads and the the occasional love (or hate!) song, his inspirations include Bob Dylan, John Prine and Johnny Cash, alongside much traditional Scots, Irish, English and American folk music. Armed with his trusty Martin acoustic guitar and mandolin, Neil aims to entertain the audience with a varied and unique set list.

The EclecticsFeature act this week is The Eclectics. Uplifting song for uplifting souls. Slightly roots-ish, slightly ska-ish, slightly reggae-ish, slightly kwala-ish. All penned by Terry, our acoustic guitarist/vocalist. With Fi on whistles, Emiliano on bass and Lorraine on cajon and bongos. Get your dancing shoes on and be uplifted with some uptempo tunes!

Lisa RigbyFeature act this week is Lisa Rigby. Lisa started composing & performing in 2004, recording her debut CD “Hello” the following year. In 2008 she formed Townhouse with Stuart Clark & John Farrell, their debut LP “Ten Pieces” appearing in 2009. Lisa’s 2nd solo album “Transition” was launched in 2011, being well received with airplay on Iain Anderson’s Evening Show on BBC Radio Scotland. For the last 5 years Lisa’s focus has mainly been on family but recording for a new album was started in 2018; she hopes to finish this and get out playing more!

Ailsa McEwanFeature act this week is Ailsa and the Seahorses. Ailsa and the Seahorses is the musical project of Scottish singer/songwriter Ailsa McEwan. Emerging onto the Edinburgh music scene in 2016, she mesmerised audiences with her unique vocal, both husky and ethereal. With her own distinctive dreamy style and original songs characterised by rolling guitar chords and catchy vocal melodies, she tells tales of her young adult life.

Callum MackinnonFeature act this week is Callum Mackinnon. Callum is a Leith-based solo artist playing his take on Americana/country/folk. His heartfelt songs take their cues from Cash, Waits and Cave as well as more modern influences like Chris Stapleton and Colter Wall, all with his own alternative twist. Callum will be playing songs from his 2018 release, “Under the Winter Sun”, as well as new tracks from his follow up, currently being recorded, due for release… sometime in the future…
