Posted 30/05/2010 By adminAspiring Music Journalists: Join Our Review Team!
Posted 12/06/2009 By adminEver read one of the Out of the Bedroom reviews and thought, “I could do a better job?” Want to get more closely involved with Out of the Bedroom and provide a very unique service in the Edinburgh acoustic scene? Then join our review team!
Out of the Bedroom is the only open mic in town that strives to offer each performer an honest, unflinching, respectful review of their gig*. We rely on a team of volunteers, on a rota basis, to provide said reviews. There is an ebb and flow in the number of people who provide this service, and at the minute we’re looking for more folk to take it on!
If you’re interested, keep the following in mind before you sign up:
You need to be there for 8pm sharp on the night.
You must be able to have the review typed and emailed to us by the following Sunday night.
Ideally you will only be called upon every five or six weeks or so, depending on how many folks we have on the rota.
If you haven’t stumbled over those points, then please contact us at reviews@outofthebedroom.co.uk or talk to an OOTB committee member on Tuesday night. We need new blood to provide fresh ink. The more writers we have, the more interesting the reviews will be from week to week!
* Although we don’t always have a review. Stuff happens.
a jolly good xmas and a spiffing new year old boy, wot?
Posted 21/12/2011 By adminHEY EVERYBODY! OUT OF THE BEDROOM IS TAKING A WEEK OFF FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON, AND THEN WE’RE BACK AT THE MONTAGUE BAR, BUT ON SATURDAYS!
AS OF SATURDAY 7 JANUARY 2012 OUT OF THE BEDROOM WILL BE ON EVERY SATURDAY AT 8pm (7:30pm is pretty much the latest sign up time for performers booking one of the open slots).
A few things…
Posted 23/09/2010 By adminIt was nice to see some OOTB faces smiling happily at us at the Neoviolet/Caro Bridges/Cal Roberts/Hannah O’Reilly/Dan Gillan gig on Monday, thanks for coming along to that.
In the meantime, we’re actively sorting out a new home for OOTB, but if your open mic appetite is unsated in the meantime, why not try this out, just got this update from Banshee Labyrinth: “The wailing Banshee Open mic night has now been moved to TUESDAY nights. (FREE entry!) If you are looking for an evening with a little bit of culture this evening is for you. We are looking for singer, song writers, poets, anyone with some musical/artistic ability who would like some stage time. Just sign-up on the night. “
And here’s this week’s gig of the week, if you like, it’s Jump Press A/The Liberty Bells/The Last Knights/The Voltaires/Pray For Ryan at the Wee Red Bar on Saturday 25 September, and it’s Β£5/4 to get in. Don’t miss it!
There’s more stuff happening next week, but i’ll tell you about that in next week’s email. Take care till then!

5090 Songwriting Challenge
Posted 29/06/2010 By adminForgot to put it in the mailout, hopefully some of you will look on the OOTB website too. Check this out: fiftyninety.fawmers.org
“This is the marathon of songwriting known as the 50 Songs in 90 Days Challenge. Between July 4th and October 1st, participants attempt to write fifty songs. Songwriters will test their creative mettle by trying to create a finished song in less than 2 days every day for nearly 3 months.
“During these 90 days participants will encourage each other, collaborate, give and gain feedback on their new creations and push themselves to practice and refine their skills in songwriting. Whether long time vets of songwriting or picking up the pen for the first time, participants will grow their skills in making music… and just might have some fun along the way.”
500th!
Posted 21/10/2012 By adminHi everyone,
Our nights at Kilderkin have been going very well and we are looking forward to our 500th, yes our 500th OOTB!
It will be a covers night (although you can play your own material if you wish) and we especially encourage you to cover songs from other OOTB performers (with their permission of course!). We would like to show the Kilderkin just how many of us are out there, and it would also be lovely to see you as well!
The feature acts for the new few months are the powerful songs of Calum Carlye (27th Oct), the blues man himself Roger Emmerson (10th Nov), the incredible Dave Keir (24th Nov), thoughtful and dynamic Pol Arida (1st Dec) and the witty Jack Blimey! (Dec 15th).
We now have a fantastic team of comperes and sound people, although we could always use some help (especially for sound). So if you feel you’d like to take part (even if it’s writing the review for one night) please let us know!
Many Thanks
